Getting our hands dirty: Dror Israel celebrates Tu B’shvat

To celebrate the Jewish birthday for the trees this year, Dror Israel plants seedlings across the country

In honor of Tu B’Shvat this year, our youth movement ran Operation Roots on several moshavim (villages) around the country. In partnership with the JNF and the moshavim movement, seedlings were delivered across the country and then planted by youth movement members in the vicinity of their homes on their moshavim in accordance to the current COVID directives of the Ministry of Health. 4,000 seedlings were planted in 150 localities! Kol HaKavod!

Additionally, we awarded a farmer from each moshav with the Israeli Agricultural Shield medal. Mazal tov!

Due to the most recent lockdown, Dror Israel has restarted our childcare program for children of essential medical staff. One of our child care locations, at the Tel HaShomer Hospital – one of Israel’s largest, located near Tel Aviv – recently welcomed some distinguished guests including Minister of Education Yoav Gallant, Director General of the Ministry of Higher and Complementary Education Mordechai Benita, Director of Social and Youth Administration Hagai Gross and Director of the Youth Movements Council Naftali Deri. During the visit, our guests and the kids in the child care program also planted seedlings together in celebration of Tu B’Shvat. The childcare branch for Tel Hashomer has around 200 participants every day for the duration of the current lockdown, which has closed the education system in Israel.

We were glad to be recognized and honored with the ministers’ visit to this important initiative.
